This week we did read a story called A Retrieved Reformation. The story is written by O. Henry who also wrote The Gift of The Magi which is another book we read. The story was very good and is quite memorable. The tells us about a prisoner who is just let out to start a new life. He was put in prison because he robbed money safes. After he is let out he starts robbing safes again. Safes all over the state were broken into by him so a cop named Ben Price was sent to look for him. Finally Jimmy settles down in a small town called Elmore. He settles down and is engaged with a lady named Annabel. Annabel's father who runs the town bank invited their family all to see the new safe that he has. One of the children
accidently gets stuck in the safe. Jimmy who is planning to get rid of his safe breaking tools watches nervously as everyone freaks out and does not know what to do. Ben Price the cop meanwhile is watching and Jimmy knows it. Jimmy finally rises up and breaks open the safe saving the girl. He walks over to Ben Price and tells him to take him away but Ben Price pretends he does not know him and walks away knowing full well Jimmy has changed. As said before the story was very good especially the ending. I like how the cop lets him go. I guess cops were better back then because now it does not seem like they care if you have changed. This is the story we read this week. http://www.literaturecollection.com/a/o_henry/106/
